My wish list for this past Christmas had only one item on it: help me in making a donation to childhood cancer research. We awoke early Christmas morning to our four daughters urging us to come downstairs immediately, as many children do. Of course, I knew the mountain of gifts that would await but what I didn't know is that my husband, David, sneaked down the night before and slipped special Christmas cards in all our stockings. The girls were blown away by the $100 bill in each of theirs! When I opened my card I found a pledge by David to make a generous donation to childhood cancer research. I began to cry because I was touched by his generosity and so grateful that we had our four healthy and happy daughters with us that morning. My girls surrounded me, concerned that I was crying. I assured them they were tears of happiness and went on to explain why. They all then grabbed their $100 bills and handed them to me insisting that they, too, wanted to help the children with cancer. We added their $400 to our donation!! The Christmas spirit of giving was truly alive in our home that morning and I am happy to report that it carries on today. My family is clearly my passion and priority in life but I have recently discovered another passion: CrossFit. So, I was thrilled to learn that my affiliate, transform CrossFit in Pennington, NJ will be participating in the first ever CrossFit for Hope Fundraiser benefiting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, whose mission it is to find cures for children with cancer and other deadly diseases through research and treatment. We will be one of over 400 affiliates nationwide participating in a workout on Saturday, June 5th. My husband and girls have caught the bug of crossfit, as well, and I am happy and extremely proud to be part of a crossfitting family! This approach to health and fitness is amazing but the sense of community, caring and support that exists among the members is truly awe-inspiring. Therefore, it makes sense that we are involved in this important effort. CrossFit nationwide is hoping to raise $1.7 million overall! Thank you for helping our family support childhood cancer research! Your generosity will help more families wake up Christmas morning with their little ones by their side!
